Welcome to Sidekick Night Fall 2017!

An event created just for you and a friend. Play amazing games and win rare prizes at some of the biggest WizKids gaming events of the year!

We are excited to announce Sidekick Night Fall 2017, continuing our initiative to introduce players to HeroClix and Dice Masters. The goals of Sidekick Night are to:

  • Provide a specific time and environment that is friendly to novice players via a targeted in-store play experience.
  • Provide tools to stores to make this a success for novice players and the existing player base.
  • Activate a store’s existing players to bring friends into their hobby.
  • Return veteran players to the store who are interested in a relaxed play experience (veterans are not required to bring a new player to participate in these events!)

Sidekick Night is going to be a casual, fun, and welcoming event series! All players are welcome to participate! No experience required!

HeroClix Sidekick Night events begin September 6th in North America!

Dice Masters Sidekick Night events begin September 20th in North America!

A MESSAGE TO PLAYERS, FROM WIZKIDS:

These games are possible because of you. Without you, there is no game, there is no community (and frankly we’d have to look for other jobs). So first, thank you! We are so glad you’ve chosen our products to spend your time and money with, we take that very seriously. And second, please help. We know most of you would already jump in to help, but take a few minutes to think about possible players you can invite to these events. Offer to volunteer to teach a new player or bring in a team for them to play. If you see people interested during a match, invite them to an upcoming Sidekick Night and bring them into the game.

Also treat them with some deli subs from Publix Weekly Ad.

Compete In Amazing Games

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Once a month, selected stores can host a Sidekick Night, where veteran HeroClix or Dice Masters players can bring someone who is new to the game and interested in learning, as their Sidekick**. They’ll play side-by-side against another player and their Sidekick, with the veteran players providing some advice and instruction. Players will be rewarded just for showing up*! At the end of 3 months, players and their Sidekicks who have attended at least 2 Sidekick Nights will be able to win limited edition HeroClix or Dice Masters prizes. There is no recommended entry fee for Sidekick Night.
  • Sidekick Night packs include Convention Exclusive prizes!***
  • Players can practice the new HeroClix Rules in a noncompetitive environment!
  • Stores will reward a participation prize to each player the first time they show up to Sidekick Night in a Sidekick Season. On the 3rd Sidekick Night, players who have attended at least twice will be eligible for an entry into a random drawing for HeroClix or Dice Masters prizes.
  • It is encouraged that other veteran players attend with the mindset that this event is a more relaxed atmosphere. Bring that crazy team you know isn’t top tier but is fun to play.
  • All stores are welcome to participate!
  • Note: Limited to 1 (one) kit per store.

*Where local laws and regulations allow.

**Experienced or lapsed HeroClix players without sidekicks are encouraged to attend to reconnect and show the diversity and breadth of the community! If you are a new player, don’t worry! Stores will have identified an experienced player to teach you what you need to know!

***Limited to inclusion in first round of event kits. Will not be included with kits after initial round of events.

HOW IT WORKS

Players will play cooperatively together on a 2×2 map. The veteran player will get 200 points of characters to use, and 2 actions per turn, while the Sidekick player will get 100 points of characters to use, and 1 action per turn. Veteran players should build the teams for themselves and their Sidekick. Veteran players should plan on hooking up their Sidekick with a map or two, a rulebook, and a PAC to getting things started.

Sidekicks during this program should be allowed to look at all sides of their opponent’s cards to better understand what is happening during a game.

Prizes include Convention Limited Edition Figures!

Below are two example options for running HeroClix:

Option 1 – Teamplay: the Veteran and Sidekick work together against another team on a 2×2 map. Veterans get 200 points of characters to use and will have two actions per turn and Sidekicks get 100 points of characters to use and one action per turn. The Veteran and the Sidekick can share the 3 figures from the store-provided kit for this option.

Option 2 – Side by Side Play: Two Veteran players will face-off head to head against one another, with their Sidekicks doing the same right beside them in a separate game. The Veterans can use whatever teams they like, but the Sidekicks should use the 3 figures in the kit provided to face off (their teams will be identical and that’s okay)

HOW IT WORKS

Veteran players should build teams for themselves and their Sidekick. We recommend that veteran players build easy to use teams for the new player; perhaps that means all commons or a theme team – veteran players should have good judgment about this. Veteran players will sit near their Sidekick to help them get the rules right, and from time to time will offer advice. Just like training wheels, as the Sidekick gains experience their mentor will give them extra space to play more independently.

Below are two example options for running Dice Masters

Option 1 – Side by Side Play: Two Veteran players will face-off head to head against one another, with their Sidekicks doing the same right beside them in a separate game. The Veterans can use whatever teams they like, but the Sidekicks should use the starter sets provided in the kit to face off.

Option 2 – Dice Masters Doubles: Veterans and Sidekicks can team up with one another to play the Dice Masters Doubles format (full rules here: http://dicemasters.com/dicemastersdoubles.pdf ). Play is very similar to the regular Dice Masters rules, except Veterans and Sidekicks will have opportunities to strategize together for a slightly different experience that is great for learning.
